Underfoot and Under Christ
And has put all [things] under his feet, and gave him [to be] the head over all [things] to the church, [Ephesians 1:22]
What’s the difference between a store-bought chick with no mama hen and one placed under a broodie hen? The one with no mama hen is likely to be a poor mama hen herself one day.
We raised six children. We’ve always had them sit with us in Church, believing “more is caught than taught.” Frequently taking them to men’s and women’s meetings.
In Psalm 8, David, struck with awe, ponders the excellence of God, who made man a little lower than the angels, yet crowns us with glory and honor. “What is man, that you remember him?”, “and the son of man that you pay attention to him?”
Grasping the concept of God putting all things under Christ’s feet is possible because just as God has put all things under the feet of Christ, He gave man dominion over His works, putting all things under man’s feet. (Psalm 8:6)
What things?
“All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, [and whatsoever] passeth through the paths of the seas. [Psalm 8:7-8]
Just as God has placed the dominion over living, breathing creatures under man’s feet, we are to yield ourselves under the dominion of Christ. You have dominion over your own body, and Christ has dominion over His body, the church.
God, who am I that you are mindful of me? Help me yield to you, loving, remembering, and paying attention to others, caring for man and beast as you care for me. Forgive me when I fall short.
